The stretching of a rectangular plate with a crack parallel to one of its edges under the
action of a uniformly distributed load is considered. An approximate analytical solution in the
form of trigonometric polynomials is constructed by the superposition method using two
solutions obtained by the method of initial functions (MIF). The stress-strain state in the
neighborhood of the crack sides and the crack tip for orthotropic plates is investigated.
