Abstract

This investigation focuses on the effect of fibre length and fibre content of basalt fibre on mechanical properties of the fabricated composites. Specimen prepared with short basalt fibre as reinforcing materials and polyester resin as a matrix in polymer composite. Based on the availability, different fibre length was taken and fabrication was done with compression moulding machine, keeping the mould closing as constant and increasing the content of fibre in the composites. Specimens were subjected to tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength test and the failure of the composite was examined with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
