Recent developments in many areas of nanotechnology show significant promise in addressing many challenges. Researches and developments have shown that the application of nanotechnology can improve the performance of traditional construction materials, such as concrete. Noteworthy improvements in concrete strength, durability and sustainability are being achieved by using different types of nanoparticles such as nano-TiO2 (NT). This paper presents an overview of the previous works carried out on the effect of NT on some properties as heat of hydration, workability, setting time, chemical shrinkage, mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, fire resistance, freeze/thaw resistance, water absorption, chloride penetration and perme- ability of the traditional plain or blended cement systems. In addition, this survey presents a comparison of some properties of the matrix containing NT versus that containing other nano particles. This overview can be considered as a short guide for Civil Engineer. |
