A uniform pressure is applied to opposite sides of a two-dimensional unit square with remaining sides fixed. Deformation of the square made of an isotropic material is studied numerically for different values of its Poisson's ratio, ν. The simulations indicate that in a range of negative values of the Poisson's ratio, the displacement vector near the vertices behaves in anomalous way - it can be even antiparallel to the direction of the loading force. |
