This review addresses the description of the state-of-the-art and recent studies on cathode materials based on olivine lithium-iron phosphates for lithium-ion batteries. Specific features of the crystalline structure of LiFePO4 and principal synthetic methods for the preparation of cathode materials based on LiFePO4 are considered. Electrochemical characteristics of cathode materials such as discharge capacity, charge-discharge rates, and power density of lithium-ion batteries can be substantially improved by the use of nanoscale materials, particles with a special morphology, porous materials with a hierarchical structure, preparation of composite materials containing oxides or ionic conductors, deposition of carbon coatings, and doping with different cations. |
