This paper presents an overview of research efforts focused on computer simulations of unique mechanical properties exhibited by graphene nanoribbons, narrow graphene ribbons with widths lower than 100 nm (typically < 10 nm). A particular attention is devoted to the edge, size and chirality effects on the Young modulus, fracture stress (strength) and strain of graphene nanoribbons. Also, fracture mechanisms are discussed which, according to computer simulations, effectively operate in graphene nanoribbons. |
