Find enclosed the first announcement of the Fifth Session of the International Research School for
Modern Fundamental Problems and Application Tasks of the Theory of Precision and Quality of Machines,
Devices and Systems, to be held in St. Petersburg in late June 2002.

Invited to participation in the School are scientists and research workers interested in the theory of precision & quality, and its applications. Request for participation should be composed according to Appendix 1. Please send the request together with presentation synopsis to the Academic Secretary of the Organizational Committee by mail/fax/E-mail.

Registration fee is payable in cash on your arrival. Please send or hand over a text of your paper in 2 hard copies and one electronic copy (on a floppy disk) to the Academic Secretary.

The Friedlander Lectures are dedicated to fundamental issues of Precision Theory as a science of reasons and variability of process parameters, and controllability of precision characteristics thereof.

will be finally compiled after April 15 2002and sent to the participants (as a part of the 2nd announcement) before June 1 2002. The latter will also cover the details of the social program.
IPME Laboratory of Measurement Means and Methods is responsible for running the School. Plenary and panel meetings will be held in a hotel in Repino (ca. 50 km from St. Petersburg).

REGISTRATION FEE
Registration fee is intended to cover expenses involved in scientific and social programs, as well as publication of the materials. Registration fee is US$ 125 payable in cash on your arrival.
PAPER PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS
Text and summary (electronic version and hard copy) should be presented in MS Word 97 (format A4, Times New Roman size 14, interval between lines multiplied by 1.15, all margins 25 mm).
The title of the paper should be typed in upper-case letters. Authors name(s)/organization/nationality/mail& E-mail addresses should be typed in lower-case letters (all centered).
Graphic files (if any) should not exceed (preferably) 50 kB in size.
Size of the paper (typed as specified above) should not exceed (preferably) 16 pages including formulae, tables and graphics.
Summary (typed as specified above) should not exceed (preferably) 1.5 pages. Two hard copies of the summary should be sent to the Academic Secretary of the Organizational Committee together with confirmation of your participation.
Electronic version of the summary should not exceed (preferably) 10 kB in size. It should be either E-mailed to the Academic Secretary of the Organizational Committee or handed over on a diskette during your registration.
