Specialisation
- Main field: Asymptotic Methods in the Theory of Elasticity
This topic deals with asymptotic methods which were created in the last twenty
years for general singularly perturbed boundary value problems. The research
activity is motivated largely by a desire to adopt these modern mathematical
tools for solving various problems of the theory of elasticity and, in particular,
to obtain asymptotic models for the contact interaction of elastic bodies
as well as for the crack propagation under the brittle fracture.
- Other fields: Contact Mechanics, Tribology
The approach suggests new formulations and methods for solution of some contact problems of the theory of
elasticity essential for tribology. These problems take into account the parameters of macro- and microgeometry of
contacting bodies, the discreteness of contact between rough surfaces, interaction between contact spots, surface
inhomogeneity, surface fracture, shape variation of surfaces in the wear process. This approach is the basis for the
analysis of the discrete contact characteristics (real contact area and contact pressure).
- Current research interest: Variational Inequalities, Shape Optimization
Main scientific objectives of this research activity are as follows. The asymptotic analysis of contact problems with
perturbed boundaries of contact zones. The sensitivity analysis of contact zones with respect to geometrical
characteristics of punches and the structure of an elastic foundation. Shape and topological optimization in the
unilateral contact problems of the theory of elasticity.
