1990 now |
Leading researcher Institute of the Problems of Mechanical Engineering, Academy of Sciences of Russia, St. Petersburg, Russia 5585 CNRS, Universite Lyon 1, 69622 Villeurbanne, France Research Activities: 1. Molecular dynamics simulation of behavior of liquids in nanoscopic channels. 2. Molecular dynamics simulation of a deformed solid state 3. Development of theory of free - surface - induced bilayer smectic - A phase in polar liquid crystals. This theory shows that within the temperature range of monolayer smectic - A phase the interaction between polar molecules and the free surface of liquid crystal gives rise to bilayer smectic - A structure with long range antiferroelectric order in the surface region in polar liquid crystals. 4. Development of theory of oscillations in thermodynamic properties of thin liquid layers between two identical boundary surfaces. The theory shows that these oscillations are due to the interference between boundary surface - induced layered structures. 5. Development of theory of layered smectic structure induced by deformed solid substrate surface in nematic liquid crystals. The theory predicts the suppression of the interfacial smectic structure by the substrate surface microrelief. It can be applied to a non - destructive defectoscopy of the solid surfaces. 6. Development of original microscopic model for superthin liquid/ liquid crystal layer with two boundary surfaces and its application to analysis of thermodynamic properties of free - standing liquid crystal films. This model accounts for the recently observed phenomenon of layer - thinning transitions in free - standing smectic - A films upon heating. |
