History of the Federal State budget-funded institution of science the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Science (IPMash RAS).

IPMash RAS was founded in September, 1986, as a Leningrad Branch of Mechanical Engineering Institute named after A.A. Blagonravov of USSR Academy of Science (USSR AS).

According to the Decree of the Presidium of USSR AS No191 dt 25.06.1991 the Branch of Mechanical Engineering Institute named after A.A. Blagonravov of USSR AS was renamed into the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of USSR Academy of Science. So a new stage of work of the institution began. the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of Russian Academy of Science was renamed into the Institution of Russian Academy of Science the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of RAS (IPMash RAS) due to coming into force of a new wording of the Charter approved by a Decision of the Bureau of DPMMCP RAS (Department of Power, Machinery, Mechanics and Control Processes of Russian Academy of Science) No 49 dt 14.04.2009 and registered by the Federal Revenue Authority (Certificate about entry into USRLE (Uniform State Register of Legal Entities) 25.06.2009).

the Institution of Russian Academy of Science the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of RAS (IPMash RAS) was renamed into the Federal State budget-funded institution of science the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Science (IPMash RAS).

The mastermind and the first Director of IPMash RAS (since 1986 to 2002) was Vladimir Pavlovich Bulatov, Doctor of Engineering, Professor.

Since 2002 to 2015 the post of the Director of IPMash RAS was held by Dmitriy Anatolievich Indeitsev, 
RAS Associate Member, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor.

Since 2015 to 2019 the post of the Director of IPMash RAS was held by Alexandr Konstantinovich Beliayev,

RAS Associate Member, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor.

Since 2019 till now, the post of the Director of IPMash RAS is held by Vladimir Anatolievich Polianskiy,

Doctor of Engineering, Professor.
