The frames of preferred directions of IPMash RAS are determined by the Department of energy, machinery, mechanics and control process of RAS. To them attributed are: Solutions to fundamental problems in the area of mechanics and applied mathematics, associated with creation of methods and facilities to determine and ensure reliability of machines and structures operating in extreme conditions.
Investigations in mechanics, thermodynamics and kinetics of non-equilibrium processes in nanomaterials and materials with controlled properties, structural and phase transformations, structure defects, properties and durability in volume and thin layers.
Study of dynamics of vibration, wave and shock-vibrating processes and devices with respect to problems of machine engineering, lithosphere physics and power industry, selfsynchronization phenomena, vibration displacement, wave localization, transformation of rheological properties.
Development of theory and methods to control non-linear processes in complicated physicotechnical systems.
Study of nano- and microtribology of interfacial interaction of solids.
