  1. Comprehensive laboratory studies of tribological processes, including dry friction of metallic and non-metallic materials, various modes of self-lubrication, and friction in the presence of solid, viscous, and liquid lubricants under a wide range of conditions, including low and high temperatures, gases, and liquid vapors, including hydrocarbon and corrosive liquids, as well as ultra-low and high speeds of relative motion, sliding, and rolling. Comparative laboratory tests are carried out in order to select friction pair materials and lubricants, to specify friction modes for a given combination of parameters and conditions, to determine friction forces and coefficients, and to determine the wear characteristics of materials. 
  2. Development, refinement, and expertise of tribological and tribotechnical test methods, including those based on domestic and foreign standards. Selection or creation of a test method based on a technical specification for research, and assistance in standardizing the developed test method.
  3. Friction and wear tests in media with specified abrasiveness characteristics, on abrasive counterbodies, including surfaces with steel scale or concrete, with long friction paths. 
  4. Determination of the coefficient of static friction for a given pair of materials and surface conditions. Clarification of the transition from static friction to sliding (and vice versa), study of the processes of starting, stick-slip, and analysis of the impact of tribotechnical processes on the operation of mechanisms. 
  5. Research for import substitution purposes includes the selection of domestic analogues of materials, as well as chemical, thermal, or other surface treatments of parts to maintain the performance characteristics of the imported components. Experimental confirmation of the suitability of the selected friction pairs.
  6. Определение или подтверждение спектра трибологических характеристик новых разработанных или открытых материалов, покрытий или способов модификации поверхности в заданном диапазоне условий, в том числе в условиях вакуума.
  7. Испытания смазок, масел или смазывающе-охлаждающих составов, в том числе в целях импортозамещения. Помощь в разработке новых смазывающих материалов и присадок. Определение и подтверждение величин показателей износа, коэффициентов трения, нагрузки сваривания, критической нагрузки, индекса задира.
  8. Испытания твердых, твердосмазочных, полимерных антифрикционных покрытий по различным контрелам.
  9. Изучение влияния водорода на промышленное оборудование с точки зрения триботехнических процессов (с воссозданием условий работы оборудования).
  10. Испытания на качение колес и роликов с заданной величиной проскальзывания, в том числе железнодорожных бандажей по рельсу в различных режимах.

The laboratory's staff has experience in studying tribological processes in mining equipment, railway transport, and the running parts and transmissions of transport and high-speed tracked and wheeled machines. They also determine the wear resistance of hard repair surfacing and study the properties of technological polymer coatings that can withstand pressures of up to GPa.
