On May 28, 2026, Smolny hosted a solemn ceremony of awarding the laureates of the St. Petersburg Government prizes for outstanding scientific results in the field of science and technology. The D.K. Chernov Prize in Materials Science was awarded to Yuriy Ivanovich Meshcheryakov, Head of the Fracture Physics Laboratory, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor, for outstanding results in experimental and theoretical studies of the dynamic strength of materials under impact loads.
